Trauma & Resilience Training - Front Royal

2-29-2020 11:00 am -1:00 pm
Free

Statistics show us that one in four children will experience trauma by the age of four. This trauma could be abuse, hunger, homelessness, witnessing violence, medical, or grief. We know that a child’s greatest learning occurs during the early childhood years. These traumas cause behaviors that we see every day in the classroom. As early childhood providers, we need to recognize the signs of trauma, and teach children how to cope with the feelings they experience.

This training will discuss:

  1. Why trauma matters?
  2. How trauma affects the brain?
  3. How trauma affects behavior?
  4. Individual resilience
  5. Ways to help children cope

This training is free and open to early childhood providers, with priority given to those accepting state subsidy and serving the infant / toddler population.  A two hour training certificate will be given.

New requirement this year: We must have at least 10 people registered or the class will be cancelled.

Please note: Space is limited. Once the class is full, we will create a waitlist.

Trauma-Responsive Care in Early Childhood Programs (Part II)

3-21-2020 9:00 am -11:00 am
Free

Now that we understand what trauma is, its effect on interactions, and the importance of being a trauma-informed early care provider, this training offers practical tools for responding to children’s behaviors that present as discipline issues by providing guidance and techniques to use in your program. In this training, you will learn: The complex needs of childhood and the effects trauma may have when basic needs are not met; how to recognize the effects of trauma on classroom interactions and behaviors; everyday caregiver practices that may trigger trauma-reactions in children; to Identify techniques and strategies for addressing and redirecting trauma behaviors, and ways to manage the behaviors of children who have experienced trauma. These techniques can result in children having more positive classroom interactions, potentially reduce expulsion/suspension rates and support the relationship between children and the early childhood professional.

We must have a minimum of 11 people registered for the class, or it may be cancelled. A 2 hour certificate will be given for this free workshop.
